A pottery teaching studio

We have all watched Cinderella when we were kids, and probably many of us have wondered how does it feel to be able to tap our wand and turn a pumpkin into a carriage… with pottery we experience how we tap our fingers and turn a ball of clay into pretty much anything! A pot, a cup, a vase, a planter, a plate, a sculpture…

We can spend pages writing about what clay is and what it means to us, we are not sure where to start and where to end, it is much easier to show you, share with you, and initiate you into this art, and that is why we created this space. We hope to see you at our studio soon!

Who are we?

Egwin Van den heuvel

I  started working with clay when I was living in Dubai back in 2017. Pottery very quickly became a big part of my life and I kept pursuing new learnings, eager to discover new techniques, meet great potters from around the world and eventually share my learnings with others. I worked with different ceramics-making techniques – pinch pots, coiling, slab building and wheel throwing, and attended courses in Dubai, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Romania. I attended glazing courses and started developing my own glazes.

Having been a teacher my whole life, whether at the beginning of my career or later on as a surgical trainer, I became passionate about teaching pottery and started delivering workshops in Belgium.

After years of working with clay, teaching the art and being passionate about every aspect of the pottery world, here I am continuing the journey with Ceramics 306, a project that came true with the help and support from an amazing potter, and my partner in life, Sara El Sayad.

Sara El Sayad

The first time I touched clay and worked on the wheel I was still at school. I recall the magical feeling of the clay turning and taking shape under my fingers.

In 2019, inspired by Egwin's passion for clay, I went back to the pottery world. I pursued courses in Lebanon, Belgium and Romania and developed my skills. Being passionate about teaching, I started relaying my knowledge to friends potters and students. I particularly enjoy creating planters, vases and tableware, and teaching!

I am happy to have communicated my passion to my three daughters who now find themselves at the wheel, drawing or sculpting rather than in front of a screen.

We are very excited to take the leap with ceramics 306 and introduce more and more people to the magical world of clay. See you soon!
